JLPT Preparation Group Course (N3-N5)

What Is the JLPT Test?

The JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test) is an internationally recognized standardized test that assesses the Japanese-language proficiency of non-native speakers. It has five levels, ranging from N5 (beginner) to N1 (advanced), with N1 being the most difficult. Similar to the CEFR framework used to describe English proficiency, the JLPT provides a way to assess language proficiency at different levels.

N1 - Demonstrates the ability to understand Japanese used in a wide range of situations. Learners can read complex and abstract texts, such as newspaper editorials and critiques, and understand news reports, lectures, and conversations delivered at a natural pace.

N2 - Demonstrates the ability to understand Japanese used in everyday situations and a wider range of contexts. Learners can read newspaper and magazine articles on various topics and understand conversations and news reports delivered at nearly natural speed. This level may be useful for those planning to study or work in Japan, depending on the institution or employer's requirements.

N3 - Demonstrates the ability to understand Japanese used in everyday situations to a certain extent. Learners can read and understand texts about familiar topics, grasp the main points of newspaper headlines, and follow everyday conversations spoken at a near-natural pace.

N4 - Demonstrates the ability to understand basic Japanese. Learners can read passages about familiar everyday topics written using basic vocabulary and kanji, and understand everyday conversations when spoken slowly.

N5 - Demonstrates the ability to understand some basic Japanese. Learners can read simple words and sentences written in hiragana, katakana, and basic kanji, and understand short, simple conversations about familiar topics when spoken slowly.
